The treatment plan listed a 14 day protocol for antibiotics to have been completed by August 13, 2014. The licensee stated that she had administered 1 1/2 cc of Batril on August 19, 2014 after which the cat was reported to seize. No emergency care was attempted. There are no label directions or written guidance from a licensed veterinarian on the use of Baytril in this cat. The complete cure of an infection is crucial to prevent recurrence and spread of disease and to provide for the general health and well being of the animals at the facility. * At 4:30pm the licensee was given verbal instructions that the animal should be provided emergency vet care within 4 1/2 hours or by 9pm the same day. A written record of treatment from the licensed veterinarian should be made available during the next inspection. |

It has been 7 days since the completion of the prescribed treatments and the cat's condition has declined. Direct guidance and supervision by a licensed veterinarian is needed to ensure a proper diagnosis is made and that animals receive appropriate care. The licensee shall ensure that a mechanism of direct and frequent communication is utilized so that timely and accurate information on problems of animal health, behavior, and well-being is conveyed to the attending veterinarian. Adequate cleaning and sanitizing is a crucial aspect of animal husbandry which helps to prevent disease and provide for the health of the animals. The licensee shall clean the hard surfaces in contact with the animals daily and sanitize routinely to prevent accumulation of excreta and reduce disease hazards. This inspection was conducted with the licensee. An exit briefing was conducted at the close of the inspection. Inspectors attempted to deliver this report at 7:30pm on August 20, 2014 and again at 9:30am-10:15am on August 21, 2014. Inspectors knocked on the doors of both the licensee's residence and the animal facility, as well as calling the licensee twice during each attempt and leaving voice messages. "King Kong was identified during the previous inspection with respiratory illness. He is currently receiving treatment as prescribed in the protocol provided by the attending veterinarian and the licensee is recording these treatments on his cage card."Doc" ID # 36 has completed his treatment and shows no signs of illness.
