A small, underweight (as compared to its littermates) piglet which during inspection was kept in a separate pen away from its littermates exhibited a labored-type breathing pattern while at rest. Licensee stated that the piglet is not currently being treated for any medical condition and has not been seen by the attending veterinarian. Each dealer or exhibitor must establish and maintain programs of adequate veterinary care that include the use of appropriate methods to prevent, control, diagnose, and treat diseases and injuries and the availability of emergency, weekend, and holiday care. Prompt and appropriate veterinary care must be provided to this piglet. The piglet was seen and treated by a veterinarian before close of business on 09-09-14. Followup care as indicated by the veterinarian must be provided and documented. Correct by 09-10-14 to ensure a system is in place to ensure timely veterinary evaluation and treatment for ill animals.
