Although the birds at the facility were socially housed and were provided with materials/activities to enhance their environment, a written plan for environmental enhancement to promote the psychological well-being of the birds had not been developed/approved by the Attending Veterinarian and was not available for review at the time of the inspection. Per this Section, exhibitors must develop, document, and follow a species-appropriate plan for environment enhancement to promote the psychological well-being of birds. The plan must be approved by the Attending Veterinarian and must be in accordance with currently accepted professional standards as cited in appropriate professional journals or reference guides. At a minimum, the plan must address each of the following: social grouping, environmental enrichment, special considerations, restraint devices, and exemptions. The Licensee needs to develop an environmental enrichment plan appropriate for the species of birds maintained and the plan must be approved by the Attending Veterinarian. Correct by 10/16/23.
